Based on a true story, Lindsey Johnston is an outstanding high
school all-American athlete, whether competing on the basketball court or
kicking field goals for the boys’ football team. Unfortunately, she soon finds
herself struggling with bipolar depression, falling from the grace of top
collegiate offers, dropping out of high school and finally attempting to end her
own life.
Her powerful father, Senator Harry Johnston, neglects his duties
as a single parent while using Lindsey’s stardom to launch a difficult
re-election bid. However, he doesn’t expect the negative press that accompanies
Lindsey’s sudden downward spiral. When he is faced between choosing to back
Federal Drug Administration approval of Big Drug’s latest, but questionable,
anti-depressants or his daughter’s mental health; he takes the political way
out. The senator ends up committing her to a mental hospital to begin treatment
with the very medications that are under scrutiny.
In the meantime brilliant former boyfriend Norman Free, who is
despised by Lindsey’s father, discovers a safer and more effective alternative
to anti-depressants. With his help, Lindsey receives natural mineral supplements
before her father or Big Drug find out.
Lindsey’s miraculous recovery to athletic stardom requires
ruining her father’s political welfare and exposing Big Drug’s manipulative hold
on the FDA. The multi billion-dollar industry isn’t going to roll over without a
fight and decides to take out both Johnstons in the process. It takes Norman’s
dedication and courage to undermine the powerful medical system and society’s
stigma surrounding bipolar depression. Time is running out. It’s up to him to
help prevent Lindsey’s mental relapse and her final suicide attempt.
